Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α) is a cytokine expressed by a number of cell types including activated lymphocytes (T and B cells), monocytes/macrophages, NK cells and LAK cells.
Previously, TNF-α was known as cachectin. TNF-α is capable of killing tumor cells directly. In addition, TNF-α can elicit a variety of cytokines involved in anti-tumor and inflammatory responses.
