B-H17 or intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) has a wide tissue distribution but is expressed primarily on endothelium in lymphoid tissues and activated lymphocytes. The expression on resting leucocytes is low but is upregulated on activation. A soluble form of CD54 is detectable in blood. CD54 antigen was initially identified as a widely distributed, cytokine-inducible counter-receptor for lymphocyte-function associated antigen-1 (LFA-1; CD11a/CD18).
