Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is an immune-mediated distinct syndrome in which laboratory detection of the pathogenic antibodies is diagnostically useful. This functional assay reproduces the in vivo pathophysiology, and highly correlates with the clinical presentation of HIT.
